Pivot Table: What You Want
At my old job I had a guy who was the Master of the Spreadsheet. Whatever I asked for, this scenario, that scenario, etc., he could render via Excel faster than I could print the money on our color laser printer. Ah, the sweetness. Now, I do not have The Spreadsheet Guy. I just have me and this is kind of lame. So, here is what I learned after making a giant workbook from all our various IT goals: the key to spreadsheet happiness is the pivot table. Do not even start making a spreadsheet without first asking yourself why you’re not making a pivot table instead. Of course, I could have done the typical IT thing and demanded a database with a web front end. Built up the project complexity 10 fold and then never actually finished it… but that would’ve been too easy.
