I’ve arrived at a “summit” for CIOs/CTOs in a mountain resort. Because I’m new to my job and new to the area, in about an hour I’ll go to the reception to meet a bunch of people for the first time. I will be nervous and there will be free alcohol. The possibilities are endless….

Themes for the summit (other than schmoozing) are e-Discovery and privacy. Nothing particularly new–or so it seems.

Meanwhile, I’m all set for the golf match tomorrow. I’ve taken a month’s worth of lesson and am now known at the driving range. Most important, I have 3 new skorts. My handicap? Sometimes I speak without thinking.

    Do you improve with lessons? I tried them once and after two weeks I was worse off than when I started….than again maybe my pro just sucked. Yeah, that sounds right

    Golf is my handicap, or my copilot. I’m on my way home from a convocation of educators interested in technology held pretty close to the ocean. It is hot. A familiar name echoed from a podium, but it was unembodied. At one juncture “they” kept referring to “IT” as though it was some kind of antagonist. I did get to play 36 holes before the meeting, making the travel worthwhile.

    Improve? Lessons? I thought I was doing great and then I hit the horrible wet course today and realized the nightmare that is golf. Their victory is complete, indeed. It’s like all that stuff I was doing with my coach was a complete joke. Driving range? HAHAHAH. Swing practice? HAHAHAHAH. Get on the green and get your ass kicked. Golf, you cruel mistress, I will be back.

    Filbert, I’m sorry I’m not where you are–I had a conflict and chose the option closer to my new home…
