I showed Adrian’s presentation below to the Dreaded Advisory Group (DAG) today. I noted the mission and goals articulated by the ASU president and how they translated into a clear technology strategy. And I talked about how the vendor partnerships and financial gains (among other gains) ASU has achieved aren’t solely the province of large research universities. And then I noted the rub–the cultural barriers, the wailing and gnashing of teeth, the difficulty higher ed institutions have with wholesale change and commitment to that change. The DAG seemed on board, but we didn’t see all the presentation. So I don’t know if the Library Director saw the bit about “burning the books” when she forwarded on the link to her staff.  Lah di da, lah di da….

    I was so excited when I watched the presentation that I ran down the hall screaming “Gmail for everyone!!! Yippieeeeee!”. But it was so late that no one was around to hear me. I found that bitterly ironic. Then I had a beer.

    No, we’re Daniel Day Lewis from “There Will Be Blood”. We have hit the mother lode and when it’s all said and done we will have ultimate power. Or did I dream that?

    No, that wasn’t a dream. That’s totally true, IMHO.
